Como 1907 are preparing for one of the biggest nights in the club’s history, but president Mirwan Suwarso has decided that some of the supporters who have waited the longest should have the chance to experience it from inside the stadium.
Como will make their Champions League debut against RB Leipzig on Thursday, September 10, at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia. It will be the club’s first appearance in Europe’s premier competition after a remarkable rise through Italian football.
With demand for tickets far exceeding the available capacity, Suwarso and several members of the club’s board have chosen to give up their own seats. The tickets will instead be offered to Como supporters born in 1950 or earlier, particularly those who have followed the club through its different divisions and difficult periods.
The decision carries particular significance because Como’s stadium has limited capacity. UEFA requirements mean the Sinigaglia will accommodate around 11,000 spectators for the Champions League, compared with more than 12,000 for domestic matches.
Suwarso explained that the gesture was intended to recognise supporters who had remained loyal to the club long before its recent transformation. For fans who witnessed Como’s struggles through the lower divisions, seeing the club compete in the Champions League represents the culmination of decades of loyalty.
The gesture adds an emotional dimension to what is already a historic occasion. As Como prepare to welcome Leipzig, the club’s leadership has chosen to make its European debut not just about the players and executives, but about the generations of supporters who kept believing in Como through every era.
