Manchester United executives are expected to recommend Michael Carrick as the club’s permanent manager to Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Chief executive Omar Berrada and director Jason Wilcox believe Carrick is the right man for the position. The 44-year-old has impressed as caretaker boss since Ruben Amorim was sacked in January. He has already secured qualification for next season’s Champions League. Formal talks will likely begin once Ratcliffe gives his final approval later this week. This decision follows a highly successful period of stability at Old Trafford.
Carrick Recommended for Permanent Manchester United Role
Carrick has enjoyed a remarkable run of results during his temporary tenure. He has won 10 of his 15 matches in charge while losing only twice. United have collected 33 points since his appointment on 13 January. No other Premier League club has earned more points during that timeframe. He successfully guided the squad from seventh to third in the table. Meanwhile, he oversaw vital early victories against title contenders Manchester City and Arsenal.
The club was in significant disarray when Amorim left his position. However, Carrick has steadied the ship with his calm leadership on and off the pitch. He has received internal praise for his focus on youth development and long-term recruitment. Several senior players have also publicly called for him to receive the job full-time. That said, United did assess other options like Thomas Tuchel and Luis Enrique before choosing Carrick.
Carrick has repeatedly stressed his commitment to a long-term vision for the club. He has already been involved in high-level discussions regarding summer recruitment plans. The former midfielder previously had a brief three-game stint as temporary boss in 2021. United now conclude their current campaign with fixtures against Nottingham Forest and Brighton. Fans are expected to give Carrick a warm reception at Old Trafford this Sunday.
