Chelsea youngsters have today been awarded the PL2 title after it was confirmed by the Premier League that their league competitions would be decided on a points-per-game basis.
The Premier League, its shareholders and academy managers have agreed on a points-per-game system to decide the final league standings following the curtailment of the season back in May, with Chelsea’s unbeaten development squad unmoved at the top of the table. The team had four matches of the campaign remaining.
Andy Myers’s side become the third PL2 champions after its restructure and introduction at the start of the 2016/17 season, with this our second title at this level after our Under-21s were crowned champions of the Premier League competition back in 2013/14.
The Young Blues began their golden PL2 campaign winning 1-0 away over Derby County thanks to a goal from Marcel Lavinier. A win over the Rams kickstarted an incredible campaign which would see Myers and his side bookmark themselves in youth football and Chelsea history.
A game which will stand out as arguably the most decisive of the PL2 season for Myers’ side is the 2-2 draw to Leicester City. If the Foxes had burst the Blues’ bubble, the trophy could have been travelling up the M1.
