Ghanaian midfielder Olivia Anokye and Indian player Soumya Guguloth scored for East Bengal. This is the first time in history that an Indian club has qualified for the AFC Women’s Champions League consecutively.
Both teams were seen attacking from the very beginning. However, in the first half, both teams could not score and the match ended in a goalless draw.
Later in the second half, East Bengal took the lead through Olivia Anokye in the 66th minute and secured the victory with a goal from Soumya in the 87th minute.
East Bengal qualified for the AFC Champions League by winning all three matches played in the qualification round. East Bengal defeated Bangladeshi club Rajshahi FC 4-0 in the first round of the group stage and Guam club Rovers 12-0 in the second round.
With a 2-0 win over Sabah FC on Sunday, East Bengal qualified for the AFC Women’s Champions League with nine points after winning all three of their group stage matches.
The 2026-27 AFC Women’s Champions League group stage will be held from November 1 to 7 at central venues. East Bengal will know their opponents in the draw to be held on September 3.
