Elliot Anderson’s £116m move from Nottingham Forest to Manchester City has been officially confirmed. The midfielder has signed a five-year deal at the Etihad Stadium.
Anderson had been a Manchester United target this summer. But he made his priorities clear at his unveiling, calling City the “kings of Manchester” and saying he wanted to join “winners.”
“They’re relentless, and that’s the sort of team I want to be a part of,” Anderson said.
“Champions and people who win trophies. Over the last 10, 12 years, they’ve dominated, so that’s why I wanted to join.”
He also explained the pull of testing himself at the top level. “As a footballer, you want to test yourself at the highest level,” he said. “Being at City means I have that opportunity.”
Anderson pointed to City’s culture and recent history as further reasons for the move. “From the outside looking in, City are a club that treats its players well and provides the perfect environment to excel,” he said. “The success they have had and the way they have played the game in the last 10 to 15 years has been extraordinary. It’s a privilege to be given the chance to be part of that.”
He becomes the first major midfield signing under new head coach Enzo Maresca, who replaced Pep Guardiola earlier this summer. Anderson made 37 Premier League starts for Forest last season, scoring four goals and ranking among the division’s top performers for tackles and passes.
The fee makes him the most expensive British player in history, surpassing the £115m Real Madrid paid for Jude Bellingham in 2023.
