Harry Kane has reportedly decided against actively campaigning for the 2026 Ballon d’Or, choosing instead to let his performances for Bayern Munich make the case for him.
The Bayern striker is among the leading contenders for the prestigious individual award, but according to a report cited by Touchline, Kane has no plans to embark on a targeted media campaign ahead of the ceremony on October 26.
Rather than giving interviews to promote his candidacy, the 33-year-old is reportedly focused on his performances on the pitch and Bayern’s upcoming fixtures.
Kane has already played down the importance of campaigning for the award. Following his nomination, the England captain said he was proud to be included but stressed that the final decision would be in the hands of the voters.
His approach contrasts sharply with two of his major rivals, Kylian Mbappé and Lamine Yamal.
Mbappé has openly backed his own chances, claiming that no player had enjoyed a better season than him. Yamal has similarly stated that he believes he deserved to win the award.
Kane, meanwhile, has a strong statistical case of his own. He scored 36 goals in the Bundesliga last season, won the European Golden Shoe and helped Bayern secure the domestic double. The German club also reached the Champions League semi-finals.
Bayern continue to back Kane
Although Kane is reportedly staying away from self-promotion, Bayern Munich officials have been vocal in their support of the striker.
Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen has described Kane as one of the best strikers of the 21st century and argued that he cannot be overlooked when discussing the leading individual awards.
Head coach Vincent Kompany has also named Kane and Michael Olise among his preferred candidates for the Ballon d’Or.
With the ceremony approaching, the contrast between the leading contenders is becoming increasingly clear. While Mbappé and Yamal have publicly made their cases, Kane appears determined to allow his football to speak for itself.
The Ballon d’Or winner will ultimately be decided by the voters, with the ceremony scheduled for October 26.
