Liverpool were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest at Anfield after coming from behind twice in an entertaining Premier League contest on Saturday.
Forest took the lead through Dan Ndoye in the first half before Liverpool responded after the break, with Alexander Isak scoring to level the game.
Morgan Gibbs-White restored Forest’s advantage from the penalty spot, but Liverpool hit back again when Víctor Muñoz scored his first goal for the club to earn a point for the hosts.
Forest strike first at Anfield
Forest started the game strongly and deservedly moved in front after 24 minutes.
Morgan Gibbs-White provided the assist for Dan Ndoye, who finished to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Liverpool struggled to find a response before half-time, with Forest holding onto their advantage at the interval.
The hosts thought they had found an equaliser through Florian Wirtz, but his effort was ruled out.
Isak brings Liverpool level
Liverpool improved after the break and eventually found their equaliser on the hour mark.
Alexander Isak scored in the 60th minute after being set up by Cody Gakpo, bringing Liverpool back into the contest at 1-1.
The momentum then shifted again when Forest were awarded a penalty.
Gibbs-White puts Forest ahead again
Morgan Gibbs-White stepped up from the spot in the 70th minute and converted to restore Forest’s lead.
Liverpool were once again chasing the game, but they continued to push for an equaliser at Anfield.
Their persistence finally paid off eight minutes later.
Muñoz rescues Liverpool
Víctor Muñoz scored in the 82nd minute to make it 2-2.
The Spanish winger, making his first start for Liverpool, received the ball on the edge of the box before turning and firing a powerful effort towards goal.
His shot took a slight deflection off Murillo before going in off the crossbar, leaving Matz Sels with no chance.
Liverpool pushed for a winner during the closing stages, but Forest defended resolutely to secure a point.
The result means Forest manager Oliver Glasner picked up his first Premier League point in charge, while Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola has now overseen two consecutive 2-2 draws.
For Liverpool, the comeback will provide some encouragement, but conceding the lead twice against Forest will leave questions over their defensive performance.
Forest, meanwhile, can take plenty of confidence from their display at Anfield after twice holding the advantage against the reigning Premier League champions.
