Phil Foden has committed his long-term future to Manchester City after signing a new four-year contract that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2030, with the club holding the option to extend the deal by a further year.
The England international’s previous contract was due to expire at the end of next season, but City have moved quickly to secure one of their academy graduates as they begin a new era under head coach Enzo Maresca. Foden made his senior debut as a 17-year-old under Pep Guardiola and has developed into one of the most decorated players in the club’s history.
Since breaking into the first team in 2017, the 26-year-old has made more than 400 appearances for City, winning six Premier League titles, the Champions League and three FA Cups, among a host of other honours. Although he endured a frustrating campaign last season and was omitted from Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the 2026 World Cup, City have reaffirmed their faith in one of their longest-serving players.
Foden is also looking forward to working again with Maresca, who served as Guardiola’s assistant during City’s Treble-winning 2022-23 campaign before returning this summer as the club’s new manager.
“Committing my future to City means everything to me,” Foden said.
“Playing for this club is all I’ve ever wanted to do and it’s always an honour to wear the shirt.
“It’s not lost on me that I’ve been lucky enough to be part of a historic period with so many titles won, but we’re always looking to the future and trying to win more.
“I can’t wait to work with Enzo again. He was brilliant during the Treble season – someone all the players respected and loved working with.”
Manchester City’s director of football, Hugo Viana, described Foden as a “unique talent” and praised both his ability and commitment to the club, insisting the midfielder will remain central to City’s plans as they begin life after Guardiola. Foden now has the opportunity to rediscover the form that earned him both the PFA Players’ Player of the Year and Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year awards during City’s 2023-24 title-winning campaign.
