AC Milan Fight Back From Two Down to Draw 2-2 with Fiorentina

AC Milan salvaged a point but saw their hopes of Champions League qualification diminish further after coming back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Fiorentina at the San Siro on Saturday, April 5th. Goals from Tammy Abraham and substitute Luka Jović cancelled out Fiorentina’s early advantage.

Milan’s recent struggles continued as they found themselves 2-0 behind within the opening 10 minutes. Malick Thiaw scored an unfortunate own goal in the seventh minute, bundling the ball into his net after Albert Gudmundsson drove into the box. Just three minutes later, Moise Kean doubled Fiorentina’s lead, firing home a first-time shot from a Dodô pass for his 17th goal of the season.

Tammy Abraham pulled a goal back for Milan in the 23rd minute, finishing low past David De Gea after a neat one-two with Christian Pulisic. Abraham had another chance blocked shortly after. Fiorentina thought they had restored their two-goal lead before halftime, but Luca Ranieri’s excellent long-range strike was disallowed for a foul on Pulisic in the build-up.

Milan improved after the break, but Fiorentina goalkeeper De Gea made crucial saves to deny Tijjani Reijnders and Pulisic. The equalizer eventually came just after the hour mark when substitute Luka Jović latched onto a defence-splitting pass from Fikayo Tomori and finished low past De Gea. Fiorentina’s Dodô had a late volley disallowed for offside.

The draw extends Milan’s poor run to just two wins in their last seven league games. They remain ninth in the Serie A table on 48 points, eight points adrift of fourth-placed Bologna (who host Napoli on Monday). Fiorentina climb to eighth place with 51 points. The last time Milan finished outside the Serie A top four was in the 2019-20 season.
