In a thrilling encounter at Emirates Stadium, Arsenal clinched a dramatic 4-2 victory over Leicester City, scoring twice in stoppage time to maintain their title challenge.
The Gunners dominated the first half, with Gabriel Martinelli breaking the deadlock in the 20th minute. The Brazilian winger capitalized on Jurrien Timber’s cross, guiding the ball home to give the hosts a well-deserved lead. Arsenal’s supremacy was further rewarded on the stroke of half-time when Leandro Trossard doubled their advantage, converting a pass from the influential Martinelli.
Leicester City, who had been overwhelmed in the opening period, managed only a single touch in Arsenal’s penalty area before the interval. However, the visitors emerged from the break with renewed vigour, stunning the home crowd just over a minute into the second half. James Justin’s header from Facundo Buonanotte’s free-kick took a deflection off Kai Havertz, wrong-footing the Arsenal goalkeeper and halving the deficit.
The Foxes’ resurgence continued, and Justin struck again in spectacular fashion shortly after the hour mark. The defender met Wilfred Ndidi’s cross from the left with a swerving volley that beat David Raya via the inside of the post, bringing the scores level and silencing the Emirates.
Arsenal, momentarily rattled by Leicester’s comeback, regained their composure and laid siege to the visitors’ goal. Mads Hermansen in the Leicester net produced a series of outstanding saves, denying both Havertz and Trossard with point-blank stops to keep his side in the contest.
As the match entered stoppage time, it seemed the Foxes might escape with an unlikely point. However, Arsenal’s relentless pressure finally told in the 94th minute when Trossard’s effort deflected off Ndidi and past the helpless Hermansen for an own goal. The drama wasn’t over, as Kai Havertz struck from close range in the ninth minute of added time to seal a 4-2 victory for the Gunners.
The result sees Arsenal draw level on points with Manchester City at the top of the table, while Leicester City were left to rue what might have been after their spirited second-half performance.
