Arsenal extended their lead in the Premier League standings to four points after securing a win against Wolves at the Emirates Stadium.
In their first game since a resounding 6-0 triumph over Lens, Arsenal seized control early on. Bukayo Saka outmanoeuvred Craig Dawson in the box to score a low shot into the far corner, opening the scoring.
The lead was soon doubled, thanks to Martin Odegaard, who rounded off a spectacular play that included Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus, enhancing Arsenal’s position in the game.
Gabriel Martinelli almost added another, hitting the post with a low attempt. Leandro Trossard and Jesus nearly scored as Arsenal looked to solidify their lead with a third goal.
In the latter half, Wolves showed more promise. Matheus Cunha challenged Arsenal’s goalkeeper David Raya with a strong shot and later scored a brilliant goal, breathing life into Wolves’ efforts with just five minutes left.
Despite this resurgence, Wolves couldn’t overturn the deficit. Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah also came close, hitting the goal frame shortly after Cunha’s goal.
Arsenal, known for their strong defensive performance in the Premier League, are now showcasing the dynamic attacking play that was a hallmark of their previous season’s championship pursuit.
The match’s highlight was Arsenal’s second goal, a masterpiece of teamwork and precision. Zinchenko and Jesus executed a perfect one-two pass sequence, setting up Odegaard for a first-time strike that sailed past Jose Sa, who got injured attempting the save.
Arsenal had chances to increase their lead before halftime. Sa saved Trossard’s close-range effort, and Jesus missed a chance over the bar. Martinelli also came close, hitting the post at the end of a swift Arsenal counter-attack.
The second half was quieter, similar to their midweek game against Lens. Rice missed a low shot, and Trossard couldn’t capitalize on a golden opportunity, shooting directly at Wolves’ backup goalie, Dan Bentley. Cunha’s late goal for Wolves added some tension, but it wasn’t enough to swing the game.
Despite a tense finale, 41-year-old Arteta was delighted as Arsenal extended their winning streak across all competitions to five games.
