Atlético Madrid Thrash Real Madrid 5-2

Atlético Madrid stunned city rivals Real Madrid with a resounding 5-2 victory at the Metropolitano, ending Los Blancos’ perfect start to the La Liga season under Xabi Alonso.

The game was frantic from the outset. Robin Le Normand headed Atlético into the lead in the 14th minute, only for Kylian Mbappé to respond with a trademark finish 11 minutes later. Arda Güler then fired Real ahead in the 36th minute with a superb strike, seemingly shifting momentum. But Alexander Sørloth struck just before the interval to make it 2-2 at half-time.

The second half belonged to Diego Simeone’s men. Julián Álvarez converted a penalty in the 51st minute before curling in a stunning free kick 12 minutes later to put Atlético 4-2 ahead. Real pushed forward but were repeatedly caught on the break, with Antoine Griezmann applying the final blow in stoppage time to seal a famous 5-2 win.

The derby featured everything—disallowed goals, fiery challenges, flaring tempers, and a bouncing Metropolitano crowd that relished every moment.

The result halts Real Madrid’s flawless run of six straight wins, handing a major boost to the title race. Barcelona and other contenders will see Atlético’s statement victory as proof that Simeone’s side remain serious challengers.

For Real, defensive fragility and lapses of concentration overshadowed the brilliance of Mbappé and Güler. Atlético, meanwhile, celebrated one of their most emphatic derby wins in recent memory, with Álvarez and Sørloth instrumental in dismantling their rivals.
