Barcelona Book El Clasico Cup Final After Edging Past Atletico

Barcelona secured their place in the Copa del Rey final with a 1-0 victory over Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano Stadium, advancing 5-4 on aggregate to set up a clash with Real Madrid.

Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in the first half, applying the finishing touch after Lamine Yamal delivered a superb defense-splitting pass. The 17-year-old Yamal was a constant threat throughout the match, while Raphinha also came close to extending Barcelona’s lead on two occasions.

Unlike the thrilling first leg which ended in a dramatic 4-4 draw in February, this return fixture was a tighter, more tense affair. Atletico created some opportunities, with substitute Alexander Sorloth opting to shoot rather than setting up Antoine Griezmann for a simple finish. The Norwegian striker also had a goal disallowed for offside.

However, Hansi Flick’s Barcelona were the superior side for long periods, extending their unbeaten run to 21 games across all competitions. The Catalans remain the only team in Europe’s top five leagues yet to taste defeat in 2025.

The April 26 final in Seville will mark the eighth El Clasico in Spanish Cup final history. Barcelona, who have already claimed the Spanish Super Cup this season, continue their pursuit of a potential quadruple. They currently lead La Liga by three points over Real Madrid and face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League quarter-finals on April 9.

This Copa del Rey final comes just over two weeks before Barcelona and Real Madrid meet again in a potentially decisive La Liga fixture, adding further significance to their cup showdown.
