Barcelona ease past Osasuna to Extend La Liga Lead

Barcelona moved three points clear at the top of La Liga with a straightforward 3-0 victory over Osasuna at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys on Thursday, March 27th. Goals from Ferran Torres, Dani Olmo, and Robert Lewandowski secured the win in a rescheduled fixture, extending Barcelona’s unbeaten run in all competitions to 19 games.

The match, originally postponed on March 8th due to the death of club doctor Carles Miñarro Garcia, saw Barcelona manager Hansi Flick field a rotated squad due to injuries and the fitness levels of players returning from international duty. Despite the changes, with players like Lewandowski and Raphinha starting on the bench, Barcelona dominated proceedings.

Ferran Torres opened the scoring in the 11th minute, applying a first-time finish from close range after an excellent cross from Alejandro Balde. Dani Olmo doubled the lead 10 minutes later from the penalty spot.

He was brought down by Osasuna goalkeeper Sergio Herrera after beating the offside trap. Although Herrera brilliantly saved Olmo’s initial penalty, the referee ordered a retake due to encroachment, and Olmo made no mistake with his second attempt. Olmo was later forced off with an apparent muscle injury.

Barcelona continued to control the game, with Torres hitting the crossbar with a free-kick before halftime. Substitute Robert Lewandowski sealed the victory in the 77th minute, heading home a cross from fellow substitute Fermín López.

Osasuna, who remain 14th, offered little attacking threat, failing to register a single shot on target throughout the match.

“Every match is a final from now on and today wasn’t different,” Torres commented post-match. “We solved it quickly and soundly and that’s the important thing. Three points and move on.”

The win takes Barcelona to 63 points from 28 games, three clear of second-placed Real Madrid (60 points) and seven ahead of third-placed Atletico Madrid (56 points), with 10 games remaining in the season. Barcelona are now the only team in Europe’s top-five leagues yet to lose a match in 2025.
