The Champions League remains the major prize Barcelona have been chasing since their most recent European triumph in 2015. They were eliminated by Atletico Madrid in last season’s quarter-finals and will hope their improved attacking depth can help them go further this time.
Feyenoord, however, have also started the season strongly. Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side are unbeaten in their first five Eredivisie matches, recording three wins and two draws. They come into this fixture after a 3-1 away victory over N.E.C., with 17-year-old Jerayno Schaken scoring on his senior debut.
The head-to-head record is limited. The clubs have met only once previously in European competition, in the 1974/75 European Cup second round, when Barcelona drew 0-0 in Rotterdam before winning 3-0 at home.

Barcelona will be without Frenkie de Jong, who is recovering from a knee problem, while Roony Bardghji remains out after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
Eric Garcia is suspended after his red card in Barcelona’s final Champions League match of last season. He trained with a protective mask on Monday but will not be available against Feyenoord.
Jesse Bisiwu is a doubt after a contusion, although the summer signing has returned to training.
Barcelona’s selection decisions are complicated by the form of several players. Rodri made his first start for the club in the 5-0 win at Valencia, while Fermín López has also made a strong case for a starting place.
For Feyenoord, Thomas Beelen, Bart Nieuwkoop, Gijs Smal, Jakub Moder and Jordan Bos are unavailable through injury. Anis Hadj Moussa is also a doubt, according to UEFA’s latest team information.
Midfielder Gjivai Zechiël has been one of Feyenoord’s standout performers, with four goals and three assists in five appearances. Luciano Valente has also scored three times.
