Brentford come from behind to beat Bournemouth

Brentford secured their fifth consecutive Premier League away victory, coming from behind to defeat Bournemouth 2-1 at the Vitality Stadium. The win keeps Brentford on the fringes of the European qualification race, while extending Bournemouth’s winless run to four league matches.

Bournemouth took an early lead when a Milos Kerkez cross deflected off the shoulder of Brentford midfielder Vitaly Janelt and into the net.

However, the lead was short-lived. Brentford equalized 13 minutes later through Yoane Wissa, who headed home from a Bryan Mbeumo corner. It was Wissa’s 14th Premier League goal of the season.

Brentford captain Christian Norgaard scored the winning goal in the second half, sweeping home after Bournemouth failed to clear a long throw into their penalty area.

The result could have been different had Antoine Semenyo converted a clear chance shortly after halftime. Unmarked six yards out, he headed Justin Kluivert’s cross against the crossbar.

Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken played a crucial role in securing the victory, making saves to deny David Brooks and Marcus Tavernier after Norgaard’s goal.

European Implications

With Carabao Cup finalists Newcastle not in Premier League action and Manchester City drawing against Brighton earlier on Saturday, a Bournemouth win would have lifted them to sixth in the table. Instead, they remain in ninth place, three points above 11th-placed Brentford.

The victory keeps Brentford in contention for a European place, highlighting their impressive away form. The match showcased Brentford’s resilience and ability to capitalize on key moments, while Bournemouth will rue missed opportunities and a defensive lapse that led to the winning goal.
