Bruno Fernandes scored twice in Portugal’s play-off final victory against North Macedonia to send them to the World Cup in Qatar.
Fernandes won the ball in midfield, played a one-two with Manchester United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, and shot home from the edge of the box to give the hosts lead.
He then volleyed home Diogo Jota’s cross for the second after assisting in the move’s inception outside his own box.
Macedonia, which surprised Italy in the semi-finals, made few contributions throughout.
They never appeared to have a chance of qualifying for their first World Cup and never put Portugal goalkeeper Diogo Costa under pressure.
Portugal qualified for their sixth consecutive World Cup, with Ronaldo, 37, making his fifth and maybe final appearance.
