Champions Arsenal play Coventry in Premier League opener

The Premier League have released the full fixture list for the 2026/27 season, and there is no shortage of compelling opening storylines.

The title holders Arsenal get their defence underway on Friday, 21st August, when newly-promoted Coventry City come to the Emirates. It is a mouth-watering opening night fixture — Coventry, who won the Championship title under Frank Lampard earlier this year, making their top-flight return against the reigning champions. For Lampard, it is one of the more fascinating managerial reunions the opening weekend could have produced.

Xabi Alonso begins life as Chelsea manager with a London derby, travelling to Craven Cottage to face Fulham on Monday, 24th August. Fulham are currently without a permanent manager following their summer reshuffle, which adds an intriguing layer to the fixture. The Spanish coach arrives at Stamford Bridge as one of the most coveted managerial appointments in European football, and his first competitive match in English football will be broadcast to a global audience.

Liverpool get their campaign underway on Saturday, 22nd August, with a demanding trip to Newcastle United in Andoni Iraola’s first competitive game in charge of the Reds. The Spaniard, who impressed at Bournemouth before his move to Merseyside, faces an immediate examination at St. James’ Park.

The first Manchester derby of the season is scheduled for 12th September, with Michael Carrick’s Manchester United hosting a Manchester City side whose managerial situation remains unresolved following Pep Guardiola’s departure. Enzo Maresca is the frontrunner to take the role, though no appointment has yet been confirmed.

The final day of the season on 30th May 2027 sees all ten fixtures kick off simultaneously at 4 pm. Chelsea end the campaign with a west London derby at home to Brentford, while Arsenal host Brighton and Liverpool face Bournemouth at Anfield. Manchester City travel to Sunderland — another of the season’s promoted clubs — on the final day.
