In a surprising turn of events, Como secured a 2-1 victory over title contenders Napoli at the Stadio Sinigaglia on Saturday, thanks to an own goal from Amir Rrahmani and a decisive strike from Assane Diao. The result leaves Inter with a one-point advantage at the top of the Serie A table heading into their highly anticipated clash with Napoli next weekend.
Napoli, who had been unbeaten in their last nine league matches, were left to rue defensive errors that cost them dearly. The visitors fell behind early when Rrahmani’s attempted back-pass to goalkeeper Alex Meret went horribly wrong. With Meret off his line, the ball rolled into an empty net, handing Como a 1-0 lead after just seven minutes.
Napoli responded well, however, and found an equalizer through Giacomo Raspadori. A costly mistake by Como defender Marc Oliver Kempf allowed Raspadori to steal possession, drive into the box, and slot the ball past Jean Butez to make it 1-1.
The first half saw Napoli grow into the game, but Como regained momentum after the break. Despite limited clear-cut chances, the hosts capitalized on another defensive lapse from Napoli. Rrahmani, who had already had a night to forget, lost possession in a dangerous area, allowing Nico Paz to set up Assane Diao. The teenager made no mistake, firing a precise shot into the net to restore Como’s lead.
Napoli pushed for a late equalizer, but Como held firm to secure a memorable victory. The defeat marks Napoli’s first loss since their 1-0 defeat to Lazio on December 8, leaving them winless in their last four matches across all competitions.
For Como, the win is a significant boost in their fight for survival, while Napoli will now turn their attention to next weekend’s crucial showdown with Inter. The result sets the stage for a thrilling title race, with Inter holding a slender one-point lead at the summit.
