AS Roma have parted ways with manager Daniele de Rossi after just four matches into the Serie A season.
The club, which appointed De Rossi in January to succeed Jose Mourinho, is currently languishing in 16th place, having failed to secure a victory in their opening fixtures.
Roma’s statement cited the need to “promptly resume the desired path” as the reason behind the decision.
” The club’s decision is made in the best interests of the team, to get back on the desired path as soon as possible at a time when the season is still in its early stages.
A heartfelt thank you to Daniele, who will always be at home at the Giallorossi club, for the work he has done in recent months with passion and dedication.” The full statement reads.
They also extended their gratitude to De Rossi for his “passion and dedication” during his tenure.
De Rossi initially enjoyed a successful start at Roma, leading the team to a strong fifth-place finish last season and reaching the Europa League semi-finals.
However, their fortunes have drastically changed this season, with three draws and one loss resulting in his dismissal.
Despite several notable summer signings, including La Liga’s top scorer Artem Dovbyk and veteran defender Mats Hummels, Roma have struggled to find their rhythm.
Meanwhile, key departures like Chris Smalling, Tammy Abraham, and Romelu Lukaku have left noticeable gaps in the squad.
De Rossi, a club legend who spent 22 years at Roma as a player, leaves his managerial position after a brief and ultimately unsuccessful stint.
The club’s ownership, the Friedkin Group, will now look to appoint a new manager to steer the team back on track.
