Everton and Grealish make perfect start at stunning new home

In a day marked by new beginnings, Everton christened their state-of-the-art Hill Dickinson Stadium with a 2-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday. The historic occasion was headlined by a stellar debut performance from new loan signing Jack Grealish, who provided both assists in a man-of-the-match display.

Thousands of supporters gathered hours before kickoff for the club’s first-ever Premier League game at its new home, a moment of hope after 133 years at Goodison Park. Grealish, on loan from Manchester City, was the focal point of the pre-match buzz, and he delivered on the high expectations.

The 29-year-old, who will be motivated by a desire to impress England manager Thomas Tuchel ahead of next summer’s World Cup, immediately recaptured the form that saw him become a Premier League star. After just 23 minutes, Grealish drove into the penalty area and delivered a precise cross to Iliman Ndiaye, who finished from close range. Grealish’s second assist came later in the half, a short pass to James Garner, who scored with a powerful 25-yard strike.

Grealish’s Impact Beyond Assists

Grealish’s two assists in his Everton debut equaled his entire Premier League assist tally from the last two seasons at Manchester City. But his performance went beyond the stat sheet. He demonstrated a willingness to take on defenders, a quality he felt had been stifled under Pep Guardiola.

“I felt really good,” Grealish told reporters after the match. “I don’t want to get into saying I didn’t feel free before, but out there I could drift, I could do what I want more or less and play with a bit of freedom, take more risks. I feel like I have done that.”

Manager David Moyes, in his second stint with the club, was thrilled with the performance. “We want to add that extra quality and that’s what we are trying to do,” he said. “Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Jack both played exceptionally well. We are thrilled we are adding a bit more quality.”

Grealish also showed a new commitment to defensive duties, winning possession a team-high seven times and tying for the most tackles with three. His performance earned him a standing ovation from the crowd of over 50,000 when he was substituted in stoppage time.

The victory marks a perfect start for Everton in their new stadium and provides a much-needed boost after their opening-day defeat to Leeds United. For Grealish, it was a crucial step in revitalizing his career and a reminder of his unique talents.
