With Fantasy Premier League managers searching for value ahead of the upcoming gameweeks, defensive statistics are providing some intriguing options. A recent analysis using FPL Demon data has highlighted five defenders who are leading the way for DEFCON points this season.
At the top of the list is John Egan, who has recorded an impressive 41 DEFCON points. Priced at just £4.1m, Egan has also collected 23 FPL points, while Hull have kept three consecutive clean sheets. His combination of regular minutes, defensive contributions and low price makes him an especially attractive budget option.
Muharemović follows closely with 39 DEFCON points. The Leeds defender has played 90 minutes in every match and has made 20 clearances across his last two games. With Leeds conceding only twice in their opening three matches, his clean-sheet potential and threat from set pieces make him another appealing option at around £5m.
Anan Khalaili and Nordi Mukiele have both registered 33 DEFCON points. Khalaili, priced at £5.0m, has produced 14.8 DEFCON per 90 minutes and won 23 of 34 ground duels. Meanwhile, Mukiele has averaged an outstanding 16.5 DEFCON per 90, including 19 DEFCON in a single match.
Rounding out the top five is Kristoffer Ajer, with 32 DEFCON points. At only £4.5m, the Brentford defender offers another cheap route into a player capable of collecting points through defensive actions, clean sheets and potentially set pieces.
For FPL managers considering a wildcard, these numbers suggest that defensive returns may come from more than just clean sheets. Egan, Muharemović, Khalaili, Mukiele and Ajer all offer different combinations of price, minutes, defensive involvement and attacking potential, making them players worth monitoring closely in the coming gameweeks.
