Gnabry Seals Kompany’s First Bundesliga Win in Thrilling Bayern Comeback

Bayern Munich, led by new manager Vincent Kompany, kicked off their Bundesliga campaign with a hard-fought 3-2 victory against Wolfsburg, with Serge Gnabry’s late winner proving decisive.

The match was a back-and-forth affair that saw both sides create numerous chances. Bayern opened the scoring through Jamal Musiala, who finished off a move started by Sacha Boey’s determined run. However, Wolfsburg’s debutant goalkeeper Kamil Grabara, playing with a face mask, made several crucial saves to keep his side in the game, including denying a header from Harry Kane.

Wolfsburg staged a comeback early in the second half, with Lovro Majer converting a penalty and quickly adding a second goal after a defensive error by Kim Min-jae.

Bayern’s legendary midfielder Thomas Muller, making his 474th Bundesliga appearance for the club, set a new record, surpassing Sepp Maier. His introduction sparked Bayern’s resurgence, as Jakub Kaminski inadvertently turned the ball into his own net moments later, bringing the Bavarians level.

The decisive moment came in the 82nd minute when Harry Kane’s pass found Gnabry, whose low shot deflected off the post and into the net, securing a crucial win for Kompany in his Bundesliga debut.

The victory will undoubtedly boost morale at Bayern, who are looking to reclaim their Bundesliga dominance after a disappointing title-less season last year. The match showcased the team’s resilience and attacking prowess, as well as Kompany’s tactical acumen.

Wolfsburg, despite the loss, can take positives from their performance, having pushed Bayern to the limit and demonstrated their ability to compete against the league’s best.
