Guirassy Late Show Secures Dortmund Victory

Borussia Dortmund extended their impressive Friday night home record with a hard-fought 2-1 win over St. Pauli, courtesy of a late winner from Serhou Guirassy.

The match started at a frantic pace, with both sides creating early chances. St. Pauli’s Oladapo Afolayan fired wide in the opening minute before Guirassy forced a save from Nikola Vasilj at the other end. Dortmund dominated possession, but St. Pauli remained a threat on the counter-attack.

St. Pauli thought they had taken the lead when Morgan Guilavogui found the net, but VAR ruled the goal out for offside. Dortmund’s pressure eventually told just before half-time, with Ramy Bensebaini heading in a Pascal Groß cross to give the hosts the lead.

Dortmund continued to control the game in the second half, with Guirassy and Donyell Malen both going close to extending their advantage. However, against the run of play, St. Pauli equalised through a stunning long-range strike from Eric Smith.

Just when it seemed St. Pauli might snatch a point, Dortmund responded. Substitute Jamie Gittens delivered a perfect cross for Guirassy to head home the winning goal, sending the home crowd into raptures.
