Isak Pushing for Liverpool Move Despite Newcastle Resistance

Alexander Isak is determined to leave Newcastle United and secure a move to Liverpool before the summer transfer window closes on 1 September, according to multiple BBC Sport sources.

The Sweden international has made joining the Premier League champions his top priority. Liverpool saw a £110m offer for the 24-year-old rejected on 1 August, with the club later insisting they were willing to walk away from negotiations.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe admitted after a pre-season defeat to Atletico Madrid that “everything is in play” regarding Isak’s future but confirmed the striker is currently not part of his immediate plans. As a result, he is expected to miss Saturday’s league opener against Aston Villa.

Isak, who netted 27 goals in 42 matches last season, joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022 and still has three years left on his contract. He sat out the club’s pre-season tour of the Far East with a minor thigh issue, training alone in Spain before returning to England last week.

Newcastle’s search for a striker has so far proved frustrating, missing out on Liam Delap to Chelsea, Benjamin Sesko to Manchester United, and Hugo Ekitike to Liverpool. The Magpies are still pursuing Brentford forward Yoane Wissa, who is keen on a move to St James’ Park.

Meanwhile, the club is close to sealing a £34.62m deal for AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw, who is expected to arrive on Tyneside on Sunday to complete his transfer.
