Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has reportedly asked to leave Napoli, with Paris Saint-Germain pushing to finalize a deal for the Georgian winger. Napoli manager Antonio Conte confirmed the 23-year-old’s desire to depart, stating that Kvaratskhelia “confirmed his plan to leave the club immediately” during a conversation between the two.
This news comes as PSG are reportedly closing in on an agreement for the highly-rated attacker. Foot Mercato insider Santi Aouna has revealed that a verbal agreement is almost in place between PSG and Napoli, with both clubs aiming to finalize the transfer next week.
Kvaratskhelia has been a revelation since joining Napoli from Dinamo Batumi in 2022, playing a key role in their Serie A title triumph in his first season. However, a disappointing 2023-24 campaign, which saw Napoli finish 10th and go through three managers, appears to have influenced his decision to seek a new challenge.
PSG’s Offer and Napoli’s Stance
Reports suggest that Kvaratskhelia will sign a four-and-a-half-year deal with PSG, who are reportedly offering to quadruple his current salary. Napoli are said to be uninterested in a swap deal involving PSG center-back Milan Skriniar, preferring a straight cash offer for their star player.
RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins reported that Kvaratskhelia is keen on joining the Ligue 1 champions, who have already submitted a bid for the winger. Previous reports indicated that Napoli would be willing to let him leave for a fee in the region of €80 million.
Conte’s Disappointment
Conte admitted to being “disappointed” by Kvaratskhelia’s decision to leave mid-season, having previously blocked his exit in the summer. The Napoli manager had hoped to build his team around the Georgian winger, but now faces the prospect of losing a key player in the January transfer window.
PSG’s Ambitions
PSG’s pursuit of Kvaratskhelia highlights their ambition to strengthen their squad and compete for major honors. The Georgian’s arrival would provide a significant boost to their attacking options and add further firepower to their already star-studded lineup.
With both clubs seemingly keen to complete the deal, Kvaratskhelia’s move to PSG appears to be edging closer. The transfer would represent a significant coup for the French champions and a blow to Napoli’s hopes of a resurgence in the second half of the season.
