Kylian Mbappé will wear Real Madrid’s iconic number 10 jersey for the upcoming 2025-26 season, inheriting the shirt following the departure of club legend Luka Modrić to AC Milan.
The Spanish club confirmed the change late on Tuesday, marking a symbolic step for the French superstar as he enters his second year at the Santiago Bernabéu. The No. 10 shirt at Real Madrid is one of the most prestigious in world football, having been worn by club greats such as Ferenc Puskás, Luís Figo, Clarence Seedorf, and Michael Laudrup.
The 26-year-old forward wore the number nine during his debut season after arriving on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in 2024.
Mbappé, who wears the No. 10 for the French national team, made a significant individual impact in his first year in Spain, scoring an impressive 44 goals across all competitions. However, the team’s campaign ended without a major trophy, a result that the club and its new talisman will be determined to rectify.
The shirt became available after the departure of Modrić, the 39-year-old Croatian midfielder who ended his decorated 13-year spell in Madrid to join Italian side AC Milan.
By taking the No. 10, Mbappé follows in the footsteps of a modern club icon and cements his own status as the central figure in the team’s attack as they aim to reclaim domestic and European titles.
