Kylian Mbappé scored one goal and assisted another as 10-man Real Madrid secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Real Sociedad to maintain their flawless start to the La Liga season. The win, coming despite a first-half red card, keeps Madrid at the top of the table.
Mbappé opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, capitalizing on a defensive error before confidently finishing for his fourth league goal of the campaign. However, Madrid’s control was challenged in the 32nd minute when defender Dean Huijsen was shown a red card for hauling down Mikel Oyarzabal, who had broken clear.
Despite being a man down, the visitors doubled their lead shortly after through Arda Güler. Mbappé was once again instrumental, setting up the young midfielder with a clever cutback. Real Sociedad responded after the break, with Oyarzabal converting a penalty in the 52nd minute following a handball by Dani Carvajal.
Madrid’s defense, fortified by a late substitution for Carvajal, held firm against sustained pressure to see out the result. The victory moves Carlo Ancelotti’s side to 12 points from four games, five clear of rivals Barcelona, who sit fifth and have a game in hand.
The match held special significance for Real Sociedad manager Xabi Alonso, who faced his former club. Alonso began his career in the Basque club’s academy, played for their senior team, and started his coaching career with their B side.
