Man Utd consider selling young winger to Turkish club

Manchester United are deliberating a formal offer from Turkish Süper Lig side Kayserispor for young winger Sam Mather, according to reports from Sky Sports News.

The Turkish club have submitted a fresh bid for the 21-year-old academy graduate, having previously attempted to sign him during the summer transfer window. That initial move reportedly collapsed after the two clubs ran out of time to finalise the paperwork before the deadline.

Long-standing interest

Kayserispor have maintained their interest in the England youth international throughout the first half of the season and are now pushing to secure his services in January. United are understood to be considering the proposal as they evaluate the best pathway for the player’s career.

Mather is a highly regarded product of the United academy and was a key member of the side that won the FA Youth Cup in 2022. He started in the final alongside current first-team stars Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho, helping the club secure a 3-1 victory over Nottingham Forest.

Seeking senior minutes

While his former teammates have established themselves as regulars under Erik ten Hag and his successors, Mather’s progress at Old Trafford has been hampered by a series of unfortunate injuries.

Unable to break into the senior setup in Manchester, Mather has instead built up experience in the lower leagues. He has spent time on loan at both Rochdale and Tranmere Rovers, but a permanent move to Turkey could now offer him the regular top-flight football required to kickstart his career.
