Newcastle Complete £55m Signing of Anthony Elanga from Forest

Newcastle United have completed the signing of Sweden international forward Anthony Elanga from fellow Premier League club Nottingham Forest, it was announced on Friday.

The deal is reportedly worth £55 million ($74 million), with Elanga joining the Tyneside club on a long-term contract. He becomes Newcastle’s first major signing of the summer transfer window as they prepare for a season that will include Champions League football.

“I had an amazing two years at Nottingham Forest, they really helped me to become the player I am today, but I’m really happy to be here now,” Elanga said in a statement released by Newcastle United. “The club won a trophy last season and are building something unique, something special that I really want to be part of.”

The 23-year-old departs the City Ground after two seasons, during which he made 82 appearances, scoring 11 goals and providing 21 assists. Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe expressed his satisfaction with the signing. “I’m delighted to welcome Anthony to Newcastle United,” Howe said. “He has been a key target for us so I’m delighted to secure him at this early part of pre-season.”

The move sees Elanga join a Newcastle side that secured a place in the UEFA Champions League last season, while also winning the Carabao Cup, their first major domestic trophy since 1955.
