Wolverhampton Wanderers confirmed the signing of Nelson Semedo from Barcelona in a deal worth up to 40 million euros on Wednesday.
The 26 year old Portugal right back, who played 13 caps for Portugal, leaves camp nou after 3 years,124 appearances and two Laliga titles with catalan giants.
“I chose Wolves because it’s a very good team that plays very good football,” he told the club’s website.
“It’s isn’t often that we have the opportunity to sign a world-class player from a world-class club, Nelson’s signing shows we will never stop progressing and we are still hungry and humble in our heart.” Wolves executive chairman Jeff Shi said.
Samedo, who is a direct replacement for Matt Doherty, who has sold to Tottenham in the off season, is also looking forward to linking up with his compatriot Nuno Espirito Santo.
He said:”Coach Nuno is a very good coach. He did very good things here at Wolves, and at other teams too. For sure, I’m going to learn a lot from him.
Semedo’s transfer to wolves for a three-year deal following the signing of club record transfer Fabio Silva earlier this month increase the Portuguese connection at wolves, which also has Portugal internationals Joao Moutinho, Ruben Neves and Rui Patricio.
Semedo has provided confirmation that he is on his way out of Camp nou after sending a good bye message to the club via Instagram.
“Thank you so much, Barcelona for giving me the opportunity to live the dream of wearing this shirt, to play in Camp Nou, to learn and enjoy from the best in the world. Thank you for making me grow as a player and as a person. It was 3 wonderful years I will never forget. Thank you to my colleagues, staff, fans, and all the people who helped me until this day. Wishing you the best luck in the world. Eternally grateful. Visca Barça!”
