Nigeria and Arsenal legend Nwankwo Kanu has backed fellow countryman Alex Iwobi after the 23-year-old joined Everton on a busy transfer deadline day in England.
Iwobi joined Marco Silva’s new look Everton side with a long term five-year contract worth £40 million ($49m) that was disclosed on Thursday.
The Nigeria international has been with Arsenal since joining the academy 15 years ago. Thanks to Arsene Wenger who was at the helm for 22 years, he came through the ranks and made his senior team debut in October 2015.
Iwobi has made 148 appearances, scoring 15 goals winning one FA Cup and two FA Community Shields as a gunner.
Kanu, a club legend took to social media to bid farewell to the departing young talent with a supporting message.
“Once a Gunner, always a Gunner. We are proud of you Alex Iwobi and will continue to support you. Good luck with your new club,” he tweeted.
Iwobi joins Italian youngster Moise Kean who arrived from Juventus in a new-look front line for the Toffees. He is expected to make his debut when Everton take on Crystal Palace in their season opener on Saturday.
