PSG Eye Fifth Trophy of 2025 in Super Cup Clash with Spurs

Barely a month after concluding the most successful season in their history, Paris Saint-Germain return to action with a shot at yet another title. The reigning European champions will face Europa League winners Tottenham Hotspur in Udine, Italy, for the UEFA Super Cup.

PSG’s 2024-25 campaign delivered a historic Treble — Ligue 1, French Cup, and their first-ever Champions League crown — capped off by a 5-0 demolition of Inter Milan in the final. They also claimed the Trophee des Champions in January. Their only stumble came in July’s Club World Cup final, a 3-0 defeat to Chelsea, which denied them a historic seven-trophy haul. Victory over Spurs would secure their fifth trophy of the year, keeping alive hopes of matching the joint-record six won by Barcelona (2009) and Bayern Munich (2020).

Luis Enrique’s side have become one of the most feared units in world football, powered by a blend of pace, pressing, and youthful energy. Twenty-year-olds Desire Doue and Joao Neves headline a squad with an average age just over 25, while stars like Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Achraf Hakimi, and Nuno Mendes dominate their positions. In goal, Gianluigi Donnarumma remains a world-class presence.

Ousmane Dembele’s transformation from inconsistent winger to prolific number nine has been pivotal. Since Enrique’s positional switch last December, the Frenchman has been unstoppable — netting 35 goals across competitions and winning the Champions League Player of the Season award.

With only a handful of players over 30, PSG look built for sustained dominance in the Super cup. However, fatigue could be a factor after last season’s 65-game marathon. Spurs will hope to follow Chelsea’s blueprint of aggressive, high-press football to unsettle the Parisians early.

For PSG, though, this match is more than silverware — it’s another step toward establishing themselves among football’s most legendary dynasties.
