PSG strongly support Neymar in racism row

PSG Support Neymar in the ongoing racism row after the infamous Ligue 1 match between PSG and Marseille.

French champions Paris Saint-Germain have issued a statement backing their star player Neymar after he stated that he was subjected to racist abuse during their 1-0 defeat to Marseille on Sunday night.

The Marseille player in question, Alvaro Gonzalez, denies any wrongdoing, but Neymar himself came out with a statement to the contrary.

Now, the Brazilian has been supported by his club with a public statement of their own.

“Paris Saint-Germain strongly support Neymar Jr., who reported being subjected to racist abuse by an opposing player,” PSG’s statement reads.

“The club reiterate that there is no place for racism in society, in football or in our lives and call on everyone to speak out against all forms of racism throughout the world.

“For more than 15 years the club has been strongly committed to the fight against all forms of discrimination alongside its partners SOS Racisme, Licra and Sportitude.

Paris Saint-Germain look forward to assisting the LFP’s Disciplinary Commission in investigating and ascertaining the facts, and it is in the hands of this body to assist in the investigation.”

The Ligue 1 match in Paris saw five players including Neymar sent off after a mass brawl in the injury time as Marseille inflicted PSG a second defeat in a row. The clash of the heavyweights registered a 21 century record for the number of cards shown.
