Bukayo Saka has moved level with Cesc Fabregas in Arsenal’s all-time Premier League rankings, registering his 105th goal contribution during a dramatic 3-2 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday.
The win at the Emirates Stadium proved vital for Mikel Arteta’s title-chasing side, allowing the Gunners to capitalise on their rivals’ inactivity and extend their lead over Manchester City at the summit of the Premier League table to seven points.
While the headline result was the three points, the narrative belonged to Saka’s continued ascent in the club’s history books. Despite starting the match amongst the substitutes, the England winger made an immediate impact upon his introduction in the second half. Saka provided the assist for one of Declan Rice’s two goals, a moment of quality that secured the win and cemented his status alongside one of the club’s most creative modern midfielders.
A Hard-Fought Comeback
The victory was far from routine for the North London club. Bournemouth stunned the home crowd by taking the lead in the 10th minute, threatening to derail Arsenal’s title momentum.
However, the hosts displayed the resilience of champions to overturn the deficit. Centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes restored parity before Declan Rice took control of proceedings. The midfielder, operating in a box-to-box role, struck twice to ensure the Gunners took all three points, rendering Bournemouth’s second goal a mere consolation.
Chasing The Legends
Saka’s assist brings his total direct goal involvements (goals and assists combined) in the Premier League to 105, drawing him level with former captain Cesc Fabregas for the joint-sixth highest tally in the club’s history.
At just 24 years old, Saka is now closing in on the top five most productive players in Arsenal’s Premier League era. He trails only a select group of club icons:
- Thierry Henry: 249
- Dennis Bergkamp: 181
- Robin van Persie: 135
- Ian Wright: 123
- Theo Walcott: 108
One more goal or assist will see Saka surpass Fabregas and move within striking distance of Theo Walcott, as he continues to be the talisman for Arteta’s side in their pursuit of the Premier League crown.
