Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has launched a scathing attack on Marcus Rashford, claiming the forward should be “banished” from the dressing room for his poor attitude and negative influence on younger players.
Rashford has not featured for United since December 12th, with manager Ruben Amorim repeatedly leaving him out of the squad. Amorim recently suggested that he would rather have 63-year-old goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital in his squad than Rashford, citing a perceived lack of effort from the 27-year-old.
Scholes, who won 11 Premier League titles with United, echoed Amorim’s sentiments, stating that Rashford has “let a lot of people down” with his attitude.
“You think of the young players coming through the team, think of (Alejandro) Garnacho, they’re looking up to people like Marcus now — he’s 27 years of age, and he’s clearly not training properly,” Scholes said.
He compared Rashford’s situation to his own experience of refusing to play in a match against Arsenal under Sir Alex Ferguson, highlighting the importance of not letting down your teammates.
“The worst thing you did is let your teammates down,” Scholes recalled Ferguson telling him. “And now I think Marcus Rashford, he’s doing exactly the same. Okay, he’s not refusing to play, but in the way he’s behaving and the way he’s training, in a way he is saying I don’t want to be involved with these.”
Scholes concluded that Rashford should be “banished” from the dressing room to prevent his negative influence from spreading to younger players.
Rashford’s Future Uncertain
Rashford’s future at Manchester United remains uncertain. He expressed his desire for a “new challenge” in December, and has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford in the January transfer window. However, his high wages and long-term contract could complicate any potential transfer.
