The ground at Kalyani Stadium was charged with excitement as Mohun Bagan Super Giants faced Kalighat Milan Sangha in a decisive Group Stage match of the Calcutta Football League 2025. There was a huge turn-out in the stadium, filled with commotion and slogans from die-hard fans of Bagan, while both sides entered the pitch with powerful line-ups and confidence. Kalighat captain Bidya and MBSG captain Sandip observed motivating their teams for what was to be a tightly contested match. The crowd was energetic—and the match did not let them down.

There was no time wasted by Mohun Bagan to let their presence be known. It took just 3 minutes of the match for Prashant to head a pinpoint header and give the Super Giants a 1-0 advantage. Kalighat, however, were not slow to counterattack. Surajit Haldar, in the 18th minute, took the audience by surprise with a forceful shot from the edge of the box that found its way into the back of the net—dredging up the score to 1-1. Kalighat and Bagan both seemed very determined, exchanging possibilities all the way until halftime. In the 24th minute, Kalighat’s forward missed an open goal, followed by a quick one by Bagan that was blocked by Kalighat’s keeper. Maybe the greatest save came in the 40th minute when MBSG jersey number 50, Gogocha, got off a close-range shot that somehow was blocked by Akash Mondal’s extended leg. It had been a high-scoring half of play, but no additional goals were scored, and the two teams went into the half tied.

The second half saw Mohun Bagan turn up the heat. In the first few minutes, they tried their chances once more with a powerful header, which was denied to them. Prashant also had another near miss in the 52nd minute, but for the third time in the match, Akash Mondal came out tall between the post. The Mariners continued to push and finally scored the opening goal in the 64th minute. Karan Rai began the move with a silky pass, straight into the box, collected the return ball, and finished coolly to put the Maroon and Green ahead again. Kalighat attempted to react—Samrat tried an effort at goal in the 70th minute, but it sailed wide. Bagan came close to putting the game away in the 74th minute when presented with a 1-on-1, but a slight hesitation allowed the keeper to recover. With stoppages of five minutes added, the drama never ended. In the 93rd minute, a Kalighat mistake presented Bagan with another opportunity for goal, but the ball was cleared just in time. In the 95th minute, Kalighat’s last opportunity to draw a level came from a box header—but MBSG keeper Ghosh pulled off a stunning save to preserve the scoreline.

The final whistle ensured a 2-1 victory for Mohun Bagan Super Giants, who took all three points from a game of chances, near-misses, and top-class performances from both teams. The victory lifted Bagan to third spot in the group on 10 points from five matches. Kalighat Milan Sangha, losing fighting spirit, fell to ninth. As the competition gets hotter, the Mariners now gear up for the major one — a much-awaited encounter with East Bengal on July 19th that will be a blockbuster in more ways than one.
