Edison Cavani took a light revenge against old foe Chile as Uruguay defeated the holders to advance to the knockout stage of Copa America as group winners.
Having won their first two matches of the tournament, defending champions Chile were on course to emerge as winners from Group C.
However, Cavani stepped up in the 82nd minute to send a glancing header and to secure the top place for Uruguay.
In a match of equal powers, Chile were the better side, having more opportunities and more possession. But Cavani made the difference as two time world Champions Uruguay marched on.
Ecuador 1-1 Japan
In another insignificant match of the group Both Ecuador and Japan played out a 1-1 draw on Tuesday morning.
Shoya Nakajima opened the scoring for the impressive Japan begore Angel Mena found the equaliser in the 35th minute to draw the match level.
