Vinicius Jr. Crowned FIFA Best Men’s Player of the Year

Real Madrid and Brazil winger Vinicius Jr. has claimed the prestigious FIFA Best Men’s Player of the Year award, marking a triumphant return to the individual awards scene after his and Real Madrid’s boycott of the Ballon d’Or ceremony earlier this year. The 24-year-old was recognized for his instrumental role in Real Madrid’s Champions League and La Liga double-winning campaign in the 2023-24 season, during which he amassed an impressive 24 goals and 11 assists.

This victory marks Vinicius Jr.’s first FIFA Best award, adding to his growing list of accolades. In a heartfelt acceptance speech, he reflected on his journey, stating: “It seemed impossible when I played barefoot in the streets of Sao Goncalo, and now I’m here.”

The FIFA Best Award, decided by a combination of votes from national team captains and coaches, journalists, and fans, recognizes the most outstanding performers in men’s football from August 2023 to August 2024. Vinicius Jr. edged out Euro 2024-winning midfielder Rodri and Real Madrid teammate Jude Bellingham, who finished second and third, respectively.

The ceremony, held in Doha, also saw Barcelona’s Aitana Bonmati secure the FIFA Best Women’s Player of the Year award for the second consecutive year.
