Manchester United have confirmed that they have agreed a deal to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus.
Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes offered the former Red Devils forward to Man City after they missed out top target Harry Kane, but City dropped out of the race on Friday.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is expected to sign a two-year deal subject to being granted a visa and passing a medical, with United having agreed to pay an initial €20m to the Italian club plus up to €3m in bonuses.
Ronaldo has less than 12 months of his contract with Juventus that is worth an estimated €31m a season after tax.
Ronaldo has so far won over 30 major trophies during his career, including five UEFA Champions League titles, four FIFA Club World Cups, seven league titles in England, Spain and Italy, and the European Championship for his native Portugal.
In his first spell for Manchester United, he scored 118 goals in 292 games.
Cristiano Ronaldo said his goodbyes to his team-mates at Juventus’ Continassa training ground on Friday and later boarded a private jet to Lisbon; Juve boss Max Allegri says Ronaldo told him he has “no intention” to stay at club.
The 36-year-old spent an hour and a half at Juve’s Continassa training ground on Friday morning to empty his locker and bid farewell to the squad before they took to the pitch for a training session.
