An exhibition match featuring legends of Real Madrid and Barcelona will be held at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, India, on April 6th. The event, organized by The Sports Front and billed as the “Legends Faceoff,” will bring the historic “El Clásico” rivalry to Indian soil for the first time.
Confirmed participants include Portuguese star Luis Figo, Brazilian World Cup winner Rivaldo, and Spanish forward Fernando Morientes. Further player announcements are expected in the coming weeks.
John Zaidi, CEO and Co-Founder of The Sports Front, highlighted the significance of the event: “Indian football fans have demonstrated unwavering passion for the game. Now, for the first time, they will witness history unfold in their own backyard. This event is about more than football—it’s about placing India at the forefront of global sports entertainment.”
Early access to tickets will be available exclusively through registration on the District app by Zomato. The official ticket launch date is yet to be announced, but sales will be conducted through the District app, with HSBC serving as the official banking partner. An HSBC pre-sale is scheduled to begin on March 2, 2025, offering HSBC customers priority access to tickets.
The organizers emphasize the growing popularity of football in India, citing La Liga’s reported 40 million fans in the country and the emergence of large digital football communities. They see the event as a milestone in India’s growing presence on the global sporting stage. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has previously acknowledged the significant following of Real Madrid and Barcelona in India.
The “El Clásico” rivalry, dating back to 1902, is one of the most celebrated and intense in world football, featuring legendary players throughout its history, from Alfredo Di Stéfano and Johan Cruyff to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. This exhibition match provides a unique opportunity for Indian fans to witness a chapter of this rivalry firsthand.
