Spain Reveal Star-Studded Squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup

Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente has announced his 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with young superstar Lamine Yamal leading a talented group packed with experience and emerging talent. Many of the players who helped Spain win UEFA Euro 2024 have retained their places, including Rodri, Pedri, Marc Cucurella and Mikel Oyarzabal.

The squad also includes a few surprise selections. Defender Marc Pubill received his first senior call-up, while Eric Garcia returns to the national setup after impressing with FC Barcelona. In goal, Spain will rely on Unai Simon, David Raya and Joan Garcia.

Spain’s midfield remains one of the strongest in the tournament, featuring creative and experienced players such as Dani Olmo, Mikel Merino and Martin Zubimendi. Out wide, Yamal, Nico Williams and Yeremy Pino are expected to provide pace and flair, while forwards Borja Iglesias and Ferran Torres strengthen the attack.

Notable absentees include Dean Huijsen, Alberto Moleiro and Pablo Fornals. Fermin Lopez also misses out after suffering a foot injury last week.

De la Fuente said the squad had been mostly decided months ago, with final choices based on fitness and recent performances. He praised Eric Garcia’s attitude and experience, while highlighting Pubill’s versatility and Victor Munoz’s energy and attacking qualities.

Spain will open their World Cup campaign against Cabo Verde national football team on 15 June in Atlanta, followed by matches against Saudi Arabia national football team and Uruguay national football team in the group stage.
