Cody Gakpo agrees Tottenham move

Cody Gakpo has reportedly agreed in principle to join Tottenham Hotspur, with the North London club stepping up their pursuit of the Liverpool forward as Roberto De Zerbi looks to strengthen his attacking options before the transfer window closes.

According to reports from the Netherlands, Tottenham have made official contact with Liverpool and reached a preliminary agreement with the 27-year-old over personal terms. Claims have also emerged that Spurs are preparing a bid worth more than £60 million, although there are conflicting reports over whether a formal offer has already been submitted.

Dutch journalist Joost Blaauwhof reports that Gakpo has agreed in principle to the move, while AD’s Rik Elfrink says the Netherlands international is open to joining Tottenham if the clubs can reach an agreement.

Despite the growing speculation, Liverpool’s stance has not changed. The Reds are not actively looking to sell Gakpo and are expected to resist any approach unless they make significant progress in their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola.

Liverpool are understood to be planning for two new wide attackers if Gakpo leaves, with Barcola remaining the priority target. The club would also seek another winger to strengthen Andoni Iraola’s attacking options alongside Victor Muñoz, Rio Ngumoha and Federico Chiesa, should the Italian remain at Anfield.

Recent developments in Paris could increase Liverpool’s optimism. PSG are widely reported to have agreed deals for Barcelona forward Ferran Torres and Ajax winger Mika Godts, moves that could open the door for Barcola’s departure before the transfer deadline.

Gakpo is not considered untouchable this summer despite signing a new five-year contract just 12 months ago. Reports suggest Liverpool would value the former PSV Eindhoven star at around £70 million.

The Dutch international featured in Liverpool’s 3-2 pre-season defeat to Monaco last weekend in what was his first appearance of the summer, but attention will now turn to whether he is included in the squad for the club’s upcoming fixtures as speculation over his future intensifies.

Tottenham are also interested in Manchester City winger Savinho, although reports indicate De Zerbi wants both players rather than viewing them as alternative targets. Whether Spurs can persuade Liverpool to sanction Gakpo’s departure could depend on how quickly the Merseyside club secure their own attacking reinforcements.
