On 20th June 2022, Antonio Rudiger was officially presented as a new Real Madrid player. Real Madrid’s president Mr Florentino Perez welcomed the German international, expressing his gratitude towards him for choosing Real Madrid over others. Recited, “Rudiger had his choice of big clubs and picked the challenge of Real Madrid”. In his welcome speech, Antonio Rudiger expressed his admiration for the club, saying, “The most important thing here is to win; it has been shown over the years by lifting many titles. Whatever happens outside, the team always comes out to win.”

Moreover, one thing that gets hyped up is Rudiger’s admiration for former Real Madrid defender Pepe, during his press interview. He mentioned, “There are many idols I had as a child, but if I had to choose one, I’d say Pepe. He has some characteristics that I love: on the pitch, he’s a monster and off the pitch, he’s a very nice person.”

Also, his reaction towards his new teammate seemed very positive, while he said, “Real Madrid have very good players, particularly in my position, that’s normal. But I have enormous self-confidence, and I’m going to add competitiveness because that’s very good for a team. I’m very excited, and I’m looking forward to it.” His interview would not have been completed without knowing his experience at the Santiago Bernabeu during this year’s UCL quarter-final second leg. “The game against Real Madrid was a special one, very intense. It was the first time I played at the Bernabéu, and for me, there were incredible emotions for me. After the third goal, there was still a good atmosphere in the stadium.” he added.

He also explained the jersey he will be wearing next season and quoted, “I like the number 2, but Carvajal has it. So I had to choose between 12 or 22, and I chose the second. It’s not something I’ve given much thought to; honestly, I just liked it.” Apart from all these he also gave a cheeky comment on his name and his former German National Team colleague, Toni Kroos, mentioning that Since Toni Kroos is already in the team, I don’t like to be called Antonio, I’d like people to call me Rudi. Overall, it is a good signing for Real Madrid, and their fans are eagerly looking forward to seeing their new Pepe in action.
