As Tottenham’s search for a right-back heats up, Wolves right-back Matt Doherty has emerged as a surprise target in the last 48 hours.

Football London broke the news on Monday, claiming that the club were keen to bring Doherty in for around £12 million – with Jose Mourinho reportedly being an admirer of the player.

Since then, the transfer has gathered more momentum as various media outlets have indicated the deal is edging closer.

According to the Independent, Spurs are now closing in on a deal for the Republic of Ireland international. Wolves reportedly want around £20 million but Tottenham are considering offering a lower fee and making up the difference with add-ons.

The Evening Standard have also echoed claims that a deal is edging closer, as Dan Kilpatrick reported that the move is being finalised for around £15 million. They also state that this could pave the way for Serge Aurier to leave the club.

However, doubt has been cast over Aurier’s potential departure after AC Milan’s director recently claimed the Ivorian is not their objective this summer.
