Two games, two wins, six points — and victories over Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Mönchengladbach.

That is how SV Elversberg have announced themselves to the Bundesliga.

Playing in Germany’s top flight for the first time in their history, Elversberg stunned Bayer Leverkusen 3-2 in their opening game before producing another remarkable comeback on Saturday, recovering from 3-1 down to beat Borussia Mönchengladbach 4-3.

The latest hero was Maurice Krattenmacher, a former Bayern Munich academy player. He scored twice, including the stoppage-time winner that completed Elversberg’s incredible comeback.

The results have given the newly promoted side a perfect start and seven goals in their first two Bundesliga matches.

From fourth tier to Bundesliga sensation

Elversberg’s current position becomes even more remarkable when their recent history is considered.

Just a few years ago, the club were playing in Germany’s fourth tier. They climbed through the divisions with consecutive promotions before reaching the 2. Bundesliga in 2023.

In 2025, they came painfully close to promotion to the Bundesliga but lost a promotion play-off to Heidenheim after conceding a late goal. Rather than allowing that disappointment to derail them, Elversberg rebuilt and returned stronger.

They finished second in the 2. Bundesliga in 2025/26, finally securing their place among Germany’s elite.

Now they are making their Bundesliga debut look anything but intimidating.

Bayern are next

Elversberg’s next opponent is Bayern Munich, making the timing of Krattenmacher’s emergence even more fascinating.

The 20-year-old developed in Bayern’s youth system before moving elsewhere to gain senior experience. He joined Elversberg permanently this summer and has already become one of the early stars of their Bundesliga adventure.

Nobody knows how long Elversberg can maintain this extraordinary run. The Bundesliga season is a marathon, not a sprint.

But after two matches, the question is no longer whether Elversberg belong in the Bundesliga.

For now, they are proving that they can beat Bundesliga teams.

And they are doing it in spectacular fashion.
