Premier League champions Liverpool have completed the signing of Dutch international Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen for a reported fee of €35 million (£29.5 million) on a five-year contract. The move comes just hours after the Anfield club confirmed the departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid.

Frimpong, a versatile 24-year-old right-sided player, is widely regarded as a direct replacement for Alexander-Arnold in manager Arne Slot’s squad. The club activated Frimpong’s release clause to secure his services. He was an integral part of the Bayer Leverkusen team that historically won their first Bundesliga title in the 2023-24 season and made 53 appearances across all competitions as they finished as runners-up in the 2024-25 campaign.

Frimpong, who developed through Manchester City’s youth academy before spells at Celtic and subsequently Bayer Leverkusen (joining them in January 2021), will face competition for the right-back position from Northern Ireland international Conor Bradley, who recently committed his future to Liverpool with a new four-year deal. Frimpong joins an established Dutch contingent at Anfield, including Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, and Ryan Gravenberch.

In addition to Frimpong’s arrival, Liverpool are also reported to be in advanced negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen to sign highly-rated Germany forward Florian Wirtz.4 The Merseyside club has reportedly submitted an offer in the region of £109 million, inclusive of add-ons, for the 22-year-old playmaker.

Wirtz is understood to be a key transfer target for Liverpool, and there is a growing sense of optimism that an agreement for what would be a club-record signing is within reach, with discussions believed to be in their final stages. Liverpool are evidently moving swiftly to reshape and strengthen their squad as they prepare to defend their Premier League title and compete on multiple fronts next season.
