Man City vie for Reinforcements After Disappointing Season
Following a 2024-25 season that fell short of their own high standards, Manchester City are active in the summer transfer window to reinforce their squad and mount a renewed challenge for top honours next term.
Despite finishing the season strongly to secure third place in the Premier League, it was a challenging campaign for Pep Guardiola’s side, which at times saw their Champions League qualification prospects appear uncertain and led to media speculation about the manager’s long-term future.
With the summer transfer window now open, the club has already begun its recruitment drive.
Confirmed & Expected Signings
Manchester City are poised to complete the signing of AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders, with the clubs having reportedly agreed to a deal worth approximately £59 million ($80 million) for the Netherlands international.
France international Rayan Cherki of Lyon is also expected to join ahead of the club’s participation in the FIFA Club World Cup. City have also finalized a £31 million transfer for Wolverhampton Wanderers wing-back Rayan Ait-Nouri, while veteran goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli has been signed from Chelsea on a free transfer to provide experienced cover.
Departures
On the departures front, midfielder Jacob Wright has completed a permanent move to Norwich City for a fee of £2.3 million. The transfer of Brazilian full-back Yan Couto to Borussia Dortmund will also become permanent on July 1 for a reported fee of £25.2 million, following his successful loan spell.
Meanwhile, the future of club legend Kevin De Bruyne appears to be away from Manchester, with the Belgian reportedly set to join Serie A champions Napoli, although minor contractual details are still being finalized. Goalkeeper Scott Carson will also leave the club when his contract expires on June 30.
The club is expected to continue its transfer activity as it seeks to strengthen key areas and find long-term replacements for recently departed midfielders.
