West Ham United secured a crucial 2-1 victory against Manchester United at the London Stadium, with Jarrod Bowen converting an injury-time penalty to settle a tense Premier League encounter.

The match sprung to life in the 74th minute when Crysencio Summerville broke the deadlock, capitalizing on Danny Ings’ mishit shot to slide the ball home. Manchester United’s response came through Casemiro, who equalized with a header in the closing stages, seemingly salvaging a point for the visitors.

However, drama unfolded in the 87th minute when referee David Coote was summoned to the pitchside monitor. After reviewing Matthijs de Ligt’s challenge on Danny Ings, and despite Manchester United’s protests over an alleged handball, Coote awarded West Ham a penalty. Bowen stepped up and confidently dispatched the spot-kick past Andre Onana.

The first half had belonged to Manchester United, who created numerous clear-cut opportunities. Alejandro Garnacho struck the crossbar in the second minute, while Diogo Dalot squandered a golden chance after cleverly rounding Lukasz Fabianski. The Polish goalkeeper proved instrumental, denying both Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford, while Bruno Fernandes headed over when well-positioned.

West Ham’s transformation came through Julen Lopetegui’s tactical adjustments at the break, including a triple substitution that saw Summerville, Tomas Soucek, and Jean-Clair Todibo enter the fray. The changes paid dividends as the hosts recorded 11 second-half shots compared to their solitary first-half attempt. the game ended in a 2-1 victory for westham.

For Summerville, a £25m acquisition from Leeds United, the goal marked his first for the club after netting 20 times in the Championship last season. The victory lifts West Ham above Manchester United in the Premier League standings, while the visitors remain in 14th position with just three wins from nine matches.

The result represents a significant rebound for West Ham following their 4-1 defeat to Tottenham last weekend, while Manchester United’s struggles continue, having secured just one victory in their previous eight fixtures.
