Al-Hilal Held to Draw by Damac as title race tightens
Al-Hilal missed the opportunity to reclaim top spot in the Saudi Pro League after being held to a 2-2 draw by Damac. The result leaves Al-Hilal two points behind leaders Al-Ittihad, who secured a dramatic late victory over Al-Taawoun on Thursday.
Al-Hilal dominated possession and created numerous chances, but were ultimately made to pay for their profligacy in front of goal. Marcos Leonardo gave them the lead with a superb diving header, but Damac responded with two goals from Habib Diallo to take a surprise lead. Although Sergej Milinkovic-Savic equalized for Al-Hilal, they were unable to find a winner and had to settle for a draw.
Al-Ittihad capitalized on Al-Hilal’s slip-up, with Karim Benzema’s last-gasp winner against Al-Taawoun sending them three points clear at the top of the table. The Jeddah giants will be looking to maintain their momentum and extend their lead in the coming weeks.
The Saudi Pro League title race remains tightly contested, with Al-Ittihad currently holding the advantage. However, Al-Hilal will be determined to close the gap and reclaim top spot, while Al-Nassr and Al-Ahli are also in contention.
